I’m a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill, majoring in Journalism with a concentration in multimedia and minoring in Computer Science and Arabic. I’m the founder, president, and webmaster of the Arabic Club, and the webmaster for Women in Computer Science. I currently work at the Media Law Center as a website support specialist. I use Google Analytics to find ways to attract more visitors by monitoring traffic and test page content and layout to attract more visitors. I also occasionally write blogs, and help keep the content and plugins updated.
I love web design, and creating web pages and graphics are some of my favorite activities. I find myself constantly inspired by the world around me – people, places, news articles. Once I have an idea, I like researching how other people have created a similar project. I study these other projects, deciding what works, what doesn’t work, and what can be improved. Then I like creating a plan on paper – a quick sketch of how I want it to look, or writing out the logic for some code – before I dive into creating.
I also find inspiration in the Arabic culture and language. The intricate details of henna is fascinating to me, and I love the way the Arabic letters flow into each other, and how Arabic calligraphy can look like art work and words at the same time. In fact, my peacock logo created out of my initials, AMR, was very much inspired by calligraphy.
In the distant future, I hope to attend grad school
, and to continue learning programming languages. I also aim to achieve fluency in Arabic and Spanish
, and to travel to countries that speak those languages.
